Wet shoes left in a closed bag have a way of making themselves known later. Deal with them when you get home, while the rest of the outing is still being unpacked.

Follow the care instructions for the materials. Remove loose dirt appropriately, open the shoes to allow airflow and take out removable insoles if the manufacturer recommends it. Avoid direct high heat unless the maker specifically permits it.

Give them a suitable ventilated place to dry without blocking a doorway or creating a trip hazard. Check the soles and fastenings while you are there; an outing is often when small damage becomes visible.

If the shoes are not ready for the next plan, use another appropriate pair or change the plan. Packing them away damp merely postpones the job. A simple drying routine is less glamorous than new equipment, but it makes the equipment you already own more pleasant to use.
