A light shower on a local walk and prolonged rain on an exposed route ask different things of a jacket. The word showerproof does not tell you everything you need to know.
Read the manufacturer's intended use and care information. Consider the hood, fastening, length and how the jacket works over the layers you expect to wear. Check whether you can move comfortably and see clearly with the hood up.
Try the arrangement near home before depending on it farther away. A jacket that packs beautifully may still be awkward with your bag or difficult to adjust. Weather protection is only part of planning; it does not make an unsuitable route suitable in severe conditions.
After use, dry and care for it according to the label. If performance changes, follow the manufacturer's cleaning or maintenance guidance rather than adding a treatment chosen at random. The best rain layer is useful equipment, not a reason to ignore a forecast that calls for changing the outing.
